Fernando J. Gil U.
Full Stack Developer · Computer Science Engineer
I build full-stack web apps, developer tools and APIs with Next.js and Python, and I co-maintain fluxer.py, an open-source Python library for the Fluxer chat app.
Projects
W2D
A web app for deciding what to do with a group of friends. The host creates a plan and shares a code; everyone adds what they feel like doing, when they’re free and where they are, and W2D suggests places that fit the group.
Details
- Integrated backend
- Full-stack development
- Google API integration
- CI/CD workflow implementation
fluxer.py
An async Python library for building bots and tools on Fluxer, the open-source chat app. I co-maintain it and lead its 0.5 rewrite, which adds typed models, media handling and much wider API coverage.
Details
- Open-source library with 50+ stars and 20+ forks on GitHub, published on PyPI.
- 0.5 rewrite (in alpha): 120+ files and ~18k lines.
- Typed models for documented API objects, an Asset type for media, and gateway latency.
- Foundation for community extensions and bots, such as fluxer-ext-menus and Fluxear.
FluxPlugs
A plugin system for the Fluxer desktop app. A Tauri installer safely patches the app with a plugin runtime, and users install plugins from a store where each plugin only gets the permissions it declares.
Details
- Installer built with Tauri and Rust for Windows and Linux, which previews every change and verifies backups before patching the app.
- Capability-scoped plugins: each plugin only gets access to what it declares.
- Public plugin SDK (API v2) with docs, guides and a starter template.
- Plugin store backed by a GitHub registry with automated validation and verification.
- Currently in private beta (0.5.0).
Prisoner's Dilemma + NLP
My thesis: sentiment analysis in game theory. Two people play the Prisoner's Dilemma and can send each other a message between rounds; NLP turns those messages into strategies, which are compared with the outcomes to find the best-performing one.
Details
- 1v1 Prisoner's Dilemma games between two real people, with one text message allowed between rounds.
- NLP that translates the players' messages into strategies.
- Analysis linking strategies to outcomes to find the best-performing one.
- Next.js and Tailwind frontend with a Python FastAPI backend, deployed on Vercel.
Fluxer Live
A live dashboard of activity across Fluxer communities. Bots built on fluxer.py collect message and voice activity from participating communities, and the site turns it into real-time stats, growth charts and pages where visitors can join those communities.
Details
- Next.js 16 front end with Fluxer OAuth login and a community dashboard.
- FastAPI backend with collector bots built on fluxer.py that measure community activity.
- Growth charts with public share pages and generated preview images.
- Docker images built in GitHub Actions and deployed to Kubernetes through Rancher.
RenderCV - VSCode
A VS Code extension for RenderCV, the tool that turns a YAML file into a polished PDF résumé. It replaces the command line with a guided UI: create CVs from a wizard, edit them next to a live PDF preview, and manage themes and settings per CV.
Details
- Published on the VS Code Marketplace.
- Setup wizard that detects the RenderCV install and creates new CVs.
- Side-by-side editor and PDF preview, re-rendering automatically on change or save.
- Global and per-CV settings, themes, and one-click CV cloning.
BUAP.pro
A Minecraft server and community for BUAP university students, with 1,000+ users. I build and maintain its custom Java plugins, website, wiki and Discord bot, and handle day-to-day user support.
Details
- Created and maintained user-facing documentation and help guides, enabling users to resolve common issues independently.
- Provided ongoing technical support to users, troubleshooting server and user-related issues.
- Developed custom tools and plugins to improve user experience and server functionality.
- Investigated and resolved data inconsistencies and unexpected behavior in platform tools and integrations.
- Consumed and integrated third-party REST APIs, and designed custom APIs for internal tooling and automation.
- Identified recurring user issues and implemented solutions to reduce support demand.
- Grew and supported a community of 1,000+ users across multiple platforms.
Fluxear
A Fluxer bot that connects community chat to Linear. Members report bugs and requests from chat without a Linear account, maintainers triage them without leaving the conversation, and reporters get notified as their tickets move.
Details
- Members file tickets with a command or by reacting 🎫 to a message.
- Reporters get a DM and a reply when their ticket’s status changes.
- Maintainers triage and edit issues from chat; Linear webhooks post per-team feeds to channels.
- Role-based permissions, multiple teams per server, and Docker deployment.
No public linkFluxer | Gaming
A gaming community on Fluxer, the open-source chat app, with 600+ users. I run the community and built the private Python bot that automates its day-to-day flows.
Details
- Over 600 users in the community.
- Automated flows through a Python-based community bot.
A Cozy Christmas
A cozy 3D Christmas living room in the browser, made for the Fluxer community. Visitors walk around it in first person and log in with their Fluxer account; shared rooms with friends are in progress.
Details
- 3D scene and physics with Threlte (Three.js for Svelte) and Rapier.
- Fluxer OAuth login and WebSockets served by a small Node server.
- Built with SvelteKit and TypeScript.
fluxer.fans
An unofficial fan club for Fluxer, the open-source chat app, that takes “fans” literally: a 3D scene of spinning desk fans and a cheering crowd. Visitors set the fan speed and send cheers that float above the crowd.
Details
- 3D scene (desk fan, breeze and creatures) built with Threlte (Three.js for Svelte).
- Available in English and Spanish with Paraglide.
- Built with SvelteKit, TypeScript and Tailwind CSS.

Experience · 2012 – Present
Independent projects
Full Stack Developer
- Self-taught since 2012: I started with batch scripts in the Windows command line and learned how malware works by writing and removing it on my own machines, all from documentation, Stack Overflow and tutorials.
- On GitHub since 2021: close to 100 projects across two accounts and ten organizations, most of them built solo from start to finish.
- Built Java plugins, Discord and Twitch bots, websites and wikis for Minecraft server communities, and have run communities of 1,600+ users, from their infrastructure to their support.
- Full-stack web apps with Next.js, React and Svelte over FastAPI and PHP backends: OAuth, row-level-secured databases, background workers and Google APIs, shipped through CI/CD to Docker Compose or to Kubernetes with Rancher.
- Software for real clients, such as a multi-tenant loyalty platform for coffee shops, plus open-source and developer tools: a Python library on PyPI, a published VS Code extension and a Rust desktop installer.
- Beyond the web: Flutter mobile apps, NLP for my thesis, quantum optimization at hackathons, IoT on microcontrollers and 3D scenes in the browser.
